Here's a debate that could last all summer long... Who's got the better barbecue? Is it Top of the Hill Grill in Brattleboro, VT? Or is it Curtis' Barbecue in Putney Vermont?
I had lunch at Curtis' Bar-B-Q the other day. Fresh off the grill, flavorful ribs in a wet sauce (I never understood dry rubs).
And with it, potato salad (also goes great on hot dogs, so I always buy a little more than I need). But the killer side at Curtis's is the macaroni salad. I don't know why, maybe it's that he uses jalapeno in the dressing, but it's always great.
Top of the Hill can't touch Curtis on mac salad, but their baked beans are unbeatable. And it's a standoff on slaw. But one thing they make here, that Curtis' doesn't, is brisket. And it's close to perfect.
Still a standoff.
Finally: ambiance. You've got to love Curtis's bus. I can't describe it. Go to Curtis's bus on the Putney page of our web site for a better idea.
Like I say: it could take all summer to decide this question.
