New Years Eve - A Special Occasion in Vemont
New Years Eve... a special occasion at Hickory Ridge House in southern Vermont.
Miriam says specials are tacky, convey a sense of discounts, sales, plaid suits... contrary to what guests experience at a Vermont inn. She's right.
Let's not do specials.
My marketing guru says, "When I buy a weekend getaway, I want to know what you're going to give me."
Okay, let's do specials.
In the middle of this debate, I talk to the folks at Max's, and they tell me about their New Years Eve price fixed dinner.
Five courses, plus intermezzo and wine pairings.
Tuna tartare to start, in an orange sesame dresing with Sevruga caviar. Followed by lobster consomme with lobster pierogi, and then a salad of sliced beets, curly endive, honey-mustard glazed walnuts and a mustard vinaigrette. An intermezzo of red currant sorbet. Choice of entree - grilled rack of lamb OR molasses glazed quail. Finish with apple mousse with rum raisin ice cream and a raspberry sauce.
My mouth waters as I hear the chef describe this meal. Wine pairings - reds, whites, sparklers - are optional.
If you've been to a wine pairing dinner at Max's, you'll know it's done well.
So, first: Hickory Ridge House bed and breakfast inn, just a hop, skip and a jump away from Brattleboro, VT,
does not offer specials , discounts and giveaways. Ever.
Second, if you stay here New Years Eve, we've got to send you to Max's. Stay two nights, have dinner there, have breakfast here both mornings, and join us for Saturday afternoon tea. Ask for our New Years Eve package, and the price will be less than sum of the parts.
Just do us a favor: don't tell Miriam.
